MISSION YOUTH: BACKGROUND
Mission Youth, a Catholic evangelization ministry, was founded in Mexico in 1987 after a call from St. John Paul II to the New Evangelization. Through the years, the work has shifted to mercy missions with an annual focus on Holy Week. Mission Youth is a pastoral program sponsored by Regnum Christi. The Core Values are:
- Courage: embrace extreme conditions and sacrifice of each mission
- Passion: spread Christ’s love through words and actions
- Joy: display enthusiasm and joy while on missions
- Respect: for people and culture during all mission interactions
- Unity: as a team, missionaries can have a greater impact
MISSION YOUTH: MISSION STATEMENT
…what is the Lord saying to us? Three simple ideas: Go, do not be afraid, and serve. – Pope Francis, WYD 2013
Mission Youth – engaging young people, adults, and families – exists to spread Christ’s love through missions in the US and abroad serving communities in their specific needs. Encountering Christ, others, and ourselves transforms and empowers us and all we serve.
Each year missions are offered for both youth and adults. Some of these missions happen in our own backyards while others take us on a journey to new places.
In particular, Holy Week Missions have grown over the last 5 years and are now offered at 8 different mission sites in the Archdiocese of Atlanta each year.
Each mission gives us the opportunity to bring Christ to others while at the same time strengthening our own spiritual substance. There is a mission for EVERYBODY!
